Susan and Sarah
For this month’s Friendship Spotlight, we caught up with two members who met through get2gether and soon discovered just how much they had in common! Susan and Sarah first met at an online event, but it was when they came together to plan a Summer Hang that they really got to know each other and their friendship blossomed. Now, they’re teaming up again to host an online Marvel quiz, one of their many shared interests! We caught up with them to hear more about their friendship!
More in common than they expected!
Susan and Sarah had crossed paths at a few online events, but it wasn’t until it was suggested that they co-host a Summer Hang together that they had the chance to get to know each other properly. Sarah had hosted Summer Hangs before, and Susan was keen to give it a try, so they started meeting on Zoom to share ideas and plan their event. As they chatted, they discovered just how much they had in common, from their love of Marvel and Star Wars to their shared taste in music. They also enjoyed spending time together at other get2gether events, including the ABBA vs Queen online event.
When we chatted to Susan, she told us that she’s not only found a best friend in Sarah, but has also grown in confidence. Their friendship has encouraged her to try new things, including hosting events, something she might not have done otherwise. Sarah also reflected on how important get2gether was in bringing them together:

Susan attended ABBA Night at Brewhemia in December. A shared love of music is just one of the things Susan and Sarah discovered they have in common!
Stepping out of their comfort zone
Planning their Summer Hang was a real team effort. Susan took the lead on choosing the venue and booking the table, while Sarah shared her experience of hosting previous Summer Hangs. They worked together to bring their ideas to life and even went live on Facebook to promote the event, which was a first for Susan!
Both said they enjoyed the experience of planning something together and learning from each other and are already talking about hosting another Summer Hang together next year! When we spoke to Susan and Sarah, it was clear just how much their friendship means to them and the impact it’s had on their confidence. Having someone to share new experiences with has encouraged them both to step outside their comfort zones and try things they might not have considered before.

More plans ahead
Susan and Sarah’s friendship is continuing beyond their Summer Hang, and they’re looking forward to meeting up outside of get2gether too, event planning as far ahead as Fringe shows next year.
When catching up with the pair for their Friendship Spotlight, they shared that they’re planning to sing together at the next Karaoke Disco in Wallyford. They’ve even chosen the song, ‘You’re My Best Friend’ by Queen, which seems like a perfect fit!

Sometimes you just meet someone you click with, and that’s exactly what happened with Susan and Sarah. What started as an opportunity to plan an event together has developed into a close friendship between two people who have so much in common and enjoy spending time together.
