Our response to the cost of living crisis

Our response to the cost of living crisis

get2gether’s trustees and staff team met in November 2022 to discuss the challenges our members will be facing in the coming months and we concluded that we want to have an excellent response to the current cost of living crisis.

Since October 2022, we have been offering “pay what you can” flagship events made possible by Magic Little Grants. We were delighted to receive funding from Localgiving and People’s Postcode Trust, a grant-giving charity funded by players of People’s Postcode Lottery.

We want to ensure none of the get2gether community members are further isolated due to the rise in living costs. So far this decision have been well received among our membership and we look forward to seeing many more of you at our upcoming flagship events.

get2gether will once again help adults with disabilities find support within their community. Our Coordinators are always looking into creating new partnerships, so we can signpost and share advice and information with members experiencing financial hardship. Our courses will remain FREE for get2gether members. Our friendly Ambassadors will continue hosting fun and welcoming social events both in person and online. These will be free or low-cost, making our programme of social opportunities affordable to all get2gether members.

By putting in place this response with immediate effect, we hope to prevent increased loneliness at a time when our members need the support of their community the most.

get2gether are now registered with Edinburgh Food Project to issue food bank vouchers. Give us a shout on office@get2gether.org.uk or 07858 318 643 for a referral or more information!

There are Warm and Welcoming Hubs all over Edinburgh & The Lothians – for more info look up https://www.edinburgh.gov.uk/warmandwelcoming

DJ Andy also recommends Community Food Pantries, run by Cyrenians. He found them friendly and well stocked. You need to register and there is a small joining fee of £1, the cost of food is very low (£2 for 10 items). Check the website to see which locations are taking new registrations.

How are you keeping warm? Give us a shout on office@get2gether.org.uk and let us know!
