!! FRIENDSHIP SPOTLIGHT !!
This month we have our members Liz, Caitlin and Ashleigh McCall!
When did you start along to get2gether?
Ashleigh: “We joined 7 years ago when Caitlin started college. Me and Caitlin signed up at a Sighthill College event.”
What do you like about get2gether?
“If there was no get2gether, we wouldn’t socialise as much“
Liz: “It’s great to get to meet new friends. We usually only come to the big events because Caitlin is at Upmo and Ashleigh is working a lot but it gets us all out and about and meeting new people. We get to have fun because we’re all in the same boat, we’ve all got a disability and we don’t feel embarrassed. We get to be with people of similar ages and there’s absolutely no judgement. For us, it makes a big difference that it’s pay what you can. ”
Caitlin: “It’s fun, because you get to hang out with lots of people and make new friends. I love seeing the Upmo gang in a safe place.”
How has coming to get2gether been good for your relationship ?
Ashleigh: “It’s nice to hang out as a family. We’ve become pretty close in recent years, we’ve got a great bond and we love spending time together. We have the confidence to be here because it feels safe. I feel really comfortable here. If I wasn’t here, I’d be sitting at home on my Xbox.”
Liz: “It’s given Ashley and Caitlin far more independence, they go out more together and they have more skills to go and do things alone. I feel like we’ve got more friends”
