12 Years of get2gether

May 2025 marked our 12th anniversary of get2gether, and we celebrated this huge milestone at our Big Night Out in May. Both new and long-time members came together for a night full of fun, laughter, and dancing, celebrating 12 years of our vibrant and diverse get2gether community.

One really special moment was having our very first member and our 1,000th member together at the Big Night Out, an incredible reminder of how far we have come since the beginning of get2gether and the friendships that have grown over the years. The night was a real celebration of love and friendship. Here’s to the next 12 years!

“The thing I love most about get2gether is being part of a community where I feel I belong. I’ve been a member since the beginning. When I moved to Edinburgh I didn’t have many friends, it wasn’t until I joined get2gether that I stopped feeling so isolated and started making friends. I love meeting up with people and going to events, especially the Karaoke Discos and Big Nights Out.”- Katrina, get2gether member

“I’ve been part of get2gether for nearly 10 years, and I’ve made lots of friends. I like hanging out with people who understand me. Without get2gether, I wouldn’t have anything to do or anyone to talk to”- Robert, get2gether member

Our Rights Our Community Book Launch

On Tuesday 24th June, we came together to celebrate the launch of Our Rights, Our Community and to hear directly from the get2gether members who shared their stories in the book.

The day began with talks from Professor Jill Stavert, Dr. Natasha Spassiani, Ken Dale-Risk, and get2gether Ambassador Philip, followed by a panel discussion with some of the members who contributed to the book. It was amazing to hear members share their experiences and reflect on the importance of human rights and inclusion.

“Being part of the book gave me the chance to share my experiences and help people understand some of the barriers I face as a blind person. Working with Edinburgh Napier University was a really positive experience, and I’m proud to keep campaigning for change to make public transport more accessible for everyone.”- Bilal, get2gether member

Everyone’s voice matters, and together we can continue building a community where everyone’s rights are respected, heard, and celebrated. This is just the beginning… watch this space for more from ‘Our Rights, Our Community!’

Securing 2.5 Years of Funding

On 22nd May, MSP Maree Todd visited get2gether to hear first-hand about how our community supports members to build friendships, confidence, and independence. Following this visit, the Scottish Government announced that the Learning Disability Support Fund will support 33 brilliant organisations across Scotland, and we are so proud to be one of them!

Over the next 2.5 years, get2gether will receive a total of £108,244! This funding will help us continue creating safe, inclusive spaces where get2gether members can build friendships, relationships, and confidence as well as provide paid roles where they can step into their first paid employment You can read more about Marree Todd’s visit and what the funding means for the get2gether community HERE
