Friendship in the Spotlight
Andrew and George
Celebrating a connection that started at get2gether and keeps growing stronger!
At get2gether, we love seeing friendships grow. Andrew and George’s story is a perfect example of how friendships can help us support each other and encourage us to take on new challenges.
How it all began
Andrew and George first met over two years ago, during get2gether’s Steering Group meeting. What started as a simple introduction quickly grew into a genuine connection, one that went beyond their initial nerves and uncertainty.
“I was sitting next to George at the Steering Group and we just clicked right away. It felt like we had known each other for ages. We gelled instantly and were laughing within minutes.”- Andrew
“From the moment I met Andrew, I felt at ease. He was so welcoming, and even though I was really nervous, he took the time to say he was genuinely pleased to have me on board at get2gether. That meant so much to me at the time and it’s something I’ve never forgotten”- George

Beyond get2gether
Since that first meeting, Andrew and George’s friendship has grown even stronger. While they both continue to enjoy attending get2gether events, they have also built their own routine of meeting up outside of get2gether. They talk on the phone nearly every day and are now planning to meet with two other friends for coffee every Saturday!
Both Andrew and George say they truly value having someone who checks in on them and being able to do the same in return, offering each other support during tougher times. It’s brilliant to see how a connection that began at a get2gether event has developed into such a strong and lasting friendship.
Their friendship has also given them the confidence to try new things and step outside of their comfort zone. As George shared:
“I went to my first ever music concert with Andrew, something I would never have felt confident enough to do before. Through our friendship, I feel like I’ve really come out of my shell.”- George

Taking the Lead: Hosting their own Summer Hang
On Tuesday, 12th August, Andrew and George teamed up to host their very own Summer Hang. It was a relaxed, member-led meet up where friends came together to have fun and connect outside of the usual get2together events. This was the second Summer Hang they’ve hosted as a duo, and George shared that he was really taken aback to be asked to host again because he didn’t think he had it in him to do something like that once let alone twice! This is such a great example of how our friendships can challenge us and push us to achieve things we never thought we were capable of!
From planning to hosting, they took the lead and made it happen. So how did it all go?
“Planning and hosting this event was definitely outside my comfort zone, but having Andrew by my side made all the difference. We chatted on the phone to plan how we wanted the day to go. Andrew waited outside the café to greet everyone, then brought them inside where I was waiting. It was such a great day and the conversation was flowing!”- George
“Because we had hosted together before, I felt very relaxed. We were able to use what we learned last time to make sure everything ran smoothly. George is such a warm person, and it was really fun hosting the Summer Hang with him.”- Andrew
Last summer, three people came to their first Summer Hang. Over the past year, they have built on that strong foundation by deepening friendships, developing new skills, and finding new ways to share their event with others. This time, nine people came along, a clear sign of how much can grow in just a year when you reflect, stay committed, and keep inviting others to be part of it!
