Friendship in the Spotlight
Robert and Jason
A friendship that supports each other, one step at a time!
This month, we’re shining a spotlight on a friendship that shows how shared interests and supporting each other can help us enjoy new experiences and see that more is possible than we might have thought!
How it all began
Robert and Jason first met earlier this year at a get2gether event. They quickly discovered a shared love of football, and their friendship grew from there. Since then, they’ve often met up outside of get2gether events, going to the pub, watching football together, and enjoying each other’s company.
Visiting different football stadiums has been on Jason’s bucket list for some time, and sharing these experiences with Robert has made it even more exciting. From planning travel to cheering on their teams, these trips have become a key part of their friendship and a way to support each other in achieving personal ambitions.
“Robert helped me with my ‘Make It Happen’ list about going to a new football stadium, and now we’re going to the Scotland vs Denmark match at Hampden together”- Jason

Supporting each other with their goals
Robert and Jason are both part of get2gether’s Bucket List Challenge. The challenge is all about peer support and working together to achieve personal goals. At the Bucket List Chat in October 2025, Robert was finding it difficult to work out all the small steps he needed to take to reach his big goal- planning his wedding. Jason jumped in to help him break it down into smaller, manageable actions.
“Breaking down my list really helped, and everyone in the group helped me think of ideas for what I need to do for my wedding. It felt good having people there for me.”- Robert
Robert and Jason have both found that breaking down big goals into smaller, achievable steps is the best way to make them feel less overwhelming and more possible.
“I liked showing everyone that I’d done one of the goals I wrote down last time. It made me feel like I can do more”- Jason

Being there for each other
Robert and Jason’s friendship isn’t just about shared activities. They support each other, listen, and offer encouragement when it’s needed. They enjoy spending time together, having a laugh, and sharing experiences. Whether at a football match or just catching up, their friendship is built on trust and support.
Why do friendships matter?
Research shows that friendships like theirs are vital for wellbeing. The Harvard Study of Adult Development, the longest-running study of adult life, started in 1938 and has followed hundreds of people for decades. It found that people with close, supportive relationships were not only the happiest but also healthier and lived longer!
The biggest lesson? It’s our relationships that have the biggest impact on our wellbeing and life! Robert and Jason’s friendship shows this perfectly in action. When we spoke with Robert, he had a lot going on and was having a very busy day, when asked how the friendships he has impacted days like this when he is overwhelmed he said:
“I feel happier. When I’m feeling stressed, meeting up with Jason or some of my other friends makes me feel better and less overwhelmed.” – Robert
