Making a Difference with get2gether, by Keoki McLeod

 I first heard about Get2gether through friends who invited me to a club night the organisation was hosting. That night turned out to be one of the most memorable experiences of my life.

I danced, laughed, and felt completely at ease. The environment was inclusive and filled with people of all abilities, making me feel like I truly belonged. As a person with a disability, I found the atmosphere incredibly comforting and supportive—a place where I could connect and simply be myself.

After that first event, I joined get2gether and began attending more of their activities, each one as welcoming and accessible as the last. I loved how diverse the members were; people from all cultures and backgrounds came together at these events, making each one exciting and fun. Meeting so many amazing people added even more meaning to the experience. The staff and ambassadors were always kind and attentive, creating a space where everyone could thrive. 

Inspired by this environment and eager to give back, I decided to apply for the ambassador role at get2gether. I applied because I wanted to contribute to a community that uplifts and empowers others, especially those with disabilities. I am passionate about disability rights and inclusion, and I saw this role as a chance to make an impact. Having experienced the challenges of living with a disability, I knew I could offer empathy and understanding. 

I hoped that by joining, I could help others experience the same joy and acceptance that I had felt. In my role, I bring a range of strengths that enrich the team. I’m compassionate and genuinely interested in people’s well-being. My personal knowledge of mobility needs, dietary requirements, and resilience allows me to create an inclusive environment. I’m also calm under pressure, hardworking, and reliable—all qualities I believe make me a strong ambassador. I want to help others feel at ease and enjoy the vibrant experiences get2gether offers.

 Looking ahead to 2025, my hope is to keep growing with get2gether, meet more incredible members, and support the organisation’s success as it expands. I’m excited to keep learning and being part of Get2gether’s journey, helping to reach more people who, like me, find a welcoming community here.
