Community Spirit!
get2gether is all about community vibes and being together whether it’s for an event, a big night out or making your first couple of friends. Our community has room for everybody.
Ambassador Natalie describes Community work as being “important for building trust and confidence within yourself and in other people and encourages self growth. It makes people feel included, valued for who they are and that they do matter. Being part of a community means having a wider support network through shared experiences and gives people a sense of purpose, feeling less alone and contributing to something bigger. Community work can improve mental health, reduce isolation and bring people together. It can open up access to opportunities they never thought they could possibly have or be able to achieve, gaining valuable skills that can be used throughout their lives.”
Community is for everyone – one of our favourite community events is our Steering group every 6 weeks where we discuss everything hot and on topic. You can attend online or in person!
This photo is from our AGM 2024 when we announced our Book Club plans for 2025 – look how many members are keen to be involved!
The get2gether Book Club is a space to read and discuss the book ‘Our Rights, Our Community’, share experiences, and explore disability rights and inclusion. ‘Our Rights, Our Community’ is a book created by get2gether and Napier University. It shares real-life stories of get2gether members who live with a disability, highlighting challenges beyond accessibility and promoting awareness, empathy, and inclusion. Want to know more? Come along to our book launch and 12th birthday party on 23rd May at Hibs Sunnyside.
This is the Learning to Date community who came together in February 2025 for our first Learning to Date event at Leith Depot. Members had the opportunity to practice their dating skills with their get2gether pals, with MC Natalie guiding us through the evening. The community cheered each other on and provided encouragement! The next Learning to Date event will be in June, keep your eyes peeled for the Community Magazine.
Here is our get2gether community with Rosie Jones at her fringe show in August 2024. Rosie advocates fiercely for the disability community through her shows and as a public speaker – and we love her for it! Here is Rosie on Question Time in 2020.
We would LOVE to see you at an event soon. If you have a cover story for us or want to host YOUR OWN event, contact office@get2gether.org.uk!
