A chat with DJ Stuart
Guest Blog: DJ Stuart
Stuart, one of our ATIK Resident DJs, reflects on his experiences over the years – check him out on the decks Thursday 14th December at the ATIK!
I have been Dj’ing for almost 20 years now. My older sister gave me my first taste of dance music back in the very late 80’s and this laid the foundation.
I’ve been into lots of different genres of music over the years ranging from happy hardcore to ambient chillout and blues.
My first real break came in 2001 when I was handed my first residency with an Edinburgh club playing house and funky house, which was huge at the time. I then made a mix which was played on Scotland’s first dedicated dance music radio station, Beat 106.
Over the next ten years, I played a number of one off gigs in Edinburgh and Glasgow, and I have had the opportunity to meet and work with some very big name DJs!
In 2011 I was offered another residency at the Point Hotel Sky bar. I was there for around 5 years and the music I played increased so much over that time. The residency sparked the idea for me to set up my own business, DJ Stuart Purdie (Edinburgh) Ltd. and my initial exploration into lighting. I’ve started doing all kinds of events from office Christmas parties to weddings and birthdays – it’s really expanded my musical knowledge!
I am also very proud to say that I am a resident at get2gether, which is a wonderful charity and close to my heart. I love playing and entertaining the members and always have a lot of fun at any events I attend. get2gether members, come and say hello!
Stuart will be playing at the ATIK for get2gether’s legendary club night on Thursday 14th December – 8pm -12am.
