Friendship in the Spotlight
Davey and Jenna
A friendship built on support, fun and being there for each other.
At get2gether, we see every day how friendships are one of the most powerful tools we have when it comes to looking after our emotional wellbeing. As we mark World Mental Health Day on Friday 10th October, we are shining the spotlight on a friendship that started at get2gether and shows how important it is to feel understood and supported in a friendship, especially when times get tough.
How it all began
Davey and Jenna were introduced over two years ago at a get2gether event, Karaoke Disco. At first, they got to know each other slowly, seeing each other at different events. Over time, they discovered they both love going to the cinema, and that’s when their friendship really began to grow!
“We first met at karaoke, and after that, we would chat when we were at the same events. Now we’ve been to the cinema a few times and even went to Pizza Hut together. It’s been really nice getting to know Davey, and now I consider him a good friend of mine.”- Jenna
“I love our cinema trips, they are so much fun. We take turns choosing what to see.”- Davey

Supporting each other through tough times
Like many strong friendships, Davey and Jenna’s connection isn’t just about having fun. It’s also about being there for each other when things feel hard. Davey shared that sometimes he gets upset, but he feels able to talk about how he’s feeling with his friends, including Jenna, and that support means a lot to him.
Jenna agrees, reflecting that no one should have to go through difficult times on their own. She shared that having someone to talk to has helped her feel less alone too, and that being someone Davey can open up to makes her feel trusted and valued.
Whether it’s having a chat, going out for a meal or seeing a film together, these moments have become an important way for them to check in and look out for each other.
“When I’m feeling sad, it’s hard to talk about it, but knowing Jenna is there helps me. That support means a lot.”- Davey

A community where you can be yourself
Davey and Jenna are both sociable and love meeting new people, so being part of the get2gether community is important to both of them. Jenna shared how much get2gether means to her and how it has helped her make friends who are kind, supportive, and help her feel like she can truly be herself. Davey agrees and said he’s always felt accepted, with no judgement.
“At get2gether I have found like-minded, similar people who don’t make me feel weird. It’s a really non-judgemental community.”- Jenna
By spending time together at events and outside of them, Davey and Jenna have built a friendship that feels easy, relaxed and full of understanding. Whether they’re choosing a film, heading out for pizza, or just having a chat, their friendship shows how being accepted for who you are can make all the difference.
Make your wellbeing a priority this October
This World Mental Health Day, and every day, we’re encouraging our members to take a moment to check in with themselves and others. Small steps like talking to someone you trust, making time for yourself or coming to a get2gether event can all support your mental health. Why not come along to our “How Are You?” online event on Friday 10th October? This will be a relaxed catch-up hosted by Ambassador Natalie to check in, connect and talk about how we are feeling.
