February 2026 Cover Story

Jade and Jordan

February is the month of love and at get2gether it is one of our favourite months of the year! It is a chance to celebrate all kinds of love including romantic relationships, friendships, and the connection that comes from being part of a supportive community.

This month’s cover stars are get2gether members, Jade and Jordan. They first met at a get2gether event and what began as a friendship has grown into a loving and supportive relationship. Their story shows how inclusive spaces can create opportunities for people to meet, connect, and build meaningful relationships.

How it all began

Jade and Jordan first met a few years ago at a get2gether Karaoke Disco night in Wallyford. At the time, neither of them knew where that first meeting would lead, but both remember it clearly.

Jordan recalls standing outside the venue when Jade arrived.

“I thought she was stunning. There was something about her straight away.”- Jordan

Jade remembers that moment just as clearly.

“As soon as I saw him, I just knew he was the one.”- Jade

They started out as friends, seeing each other at get2gether events and taking time to get to know each other. Over time, that friendship grew stronger and eventually developed into a romantic relationship. Jade and Jordan have now been together for eight months!

Supporting each other

As their relationship developed, Jade and Jordan began to support each other in deeper ways. Jordan shared that early on in their romantic relationship, he went through a difficult period. Having Jade there during that time made a big difference. One moment he says he will never forget was when Jade set her alarm early one morning so she could call him before what she knew would be a difficult day for him.

“Jade was there for me when I really needed her. No one had ever done that for me before. That is when I knew I wanted to be with her.”- Jordan

While get2gether is where they first met, their relationship has grown beyond events and into everyday life. They support one another through challenges and enjoy spending time together as a couple and with friends.

Their story shows how relationships that begin with friendship can grow into something strong and supportive.

Love, connection, and your right to be loved

Everyone has the right to love and be loved. At the heart of the Human Rights Act 1998 is the freedom to choose how we live, who we spend time with, and how we form meaningful relationships.

However, research shows that adults with disabilities still face extra barriers when it comes to dating and relationships. A Lancaster University study found that only 3% of adults with a learning disability in England were living as a couple, compared with around 70% of adults without a learning disability. Barriers can include fewer opportunities to meet people, fear of judgement, and a lack of safe and supportive spaces.

Jade and Jordan’s story is a reminder that when these barriers are reduced, meaningful relationships can and do happen. Supportive communities like get2gether help create vital opportunities for people to meet, build friendships, and form relationships at their own pace.
