get2gether 2022…The one lockdown can’t stop!
Joining get2gether has been the best thing to happen to me! It has been a lot of fun, laughs and opened up a great community – I can’t recommend it enough. I think that every disabled person should sign up whether they are eighteen or forty. It is never too late to sign up – we are all crazy here but it’s the good kind if you know what I mean!
I have loved 2020-2021 with get2gether, hosting events, meeting new friends, being involved in AGM and co-publishing a paper with Napier University. Socially and professionally, I don’t know where I would have been if I had not found this awesome group. Due to the opportunities I had over the past 2 years, I have learned a lot about myself and where I want to go in terms of further education and employment!
Joining get2gether has given me the confidence to pursue other dreams. I recently became a board trustee at Values into Action Scotland! I never thought I would become a director at the age of 19 years old – 33 years before my dad was! Thank you to Sonya from The Assembly who put in a good word for me and Norma who is the CEO of VIAS, I have been to a few meetings so far. I love the work they are doing across Scotland, plus the warm welcome they have given me so far. I look forward to working with all of the staff and fellow trustees here at VIAS in the coming years!
Other exciting news- in December 2021 I was commended student of the year award at CDN awards at Radisson Blu Hotel in Glasgow. It was a huge honor to be nominated by Jackie Galbraith who is my fab principal at West Lothian college and to all the staff there who help and encourage me along the way. I can’t say how much you are all awesome to learn from and work with you. It was a privilege to be there that night and get an award – one of the best nights of my life.
I’m so excited for 2022 with get2gether! We’re kicking off skill share sessions today, sessions based around everyone’s unique set of skills and desire to expand their knowledge. It just makes sense that everybody can come together and learn from each other. In March there will also be Monday Magic lunch to say a huge thank you to the members who have kept get2gether at home alive over the past two years, coming to our meetings and keeping our Facebook community active!
In May we have secured funding to put on a red carpet event at The Brunton Theatre in Musselburgh!!! They are keen on setting up a planning group for this event with a few members, especially the ones who live around the East Lothian area. If you are interested in being part of the group, please contact either Rosy or Ella.
I hope you all keep having an awesome year ahead and thank you for taking the time to read my blog!
