September cover story
What’s been happening?
Have you heard the news – Sunday 15th September get2gether will be walking our FIRST EVER KILTWALK!
So far, 12 members – and the number is growing – will be taking on the 5km from Victoria Park to Murrayfield. Our board member Pauline will be there too!
Why are we walking the kiltwalk?
In light of challenging fundraising, get2gether will be walking the kiltwalk to raise some funds so we can continue to run events and pay staff. However, it’s more than that! Doing the Kiltwalk is very personal to each person who chooses to participate. It’s a personal challenge. Our member Jenna says she’s walking because she “likes that there’s people of all walks of life at get2gether” and she wants to contribute to keeping get2gether going. George says he’s walking because “get2gether has given me more independence and I’ve met lots more people! I’ve loved hearing other member’s stories about their lives and making new friends!”
Ambassador Philip says he’s walking “to raise money for get2gether and to achieve a personal goal of walking for my fitness and health. I want to make people aware that walking this distance can be done and inspire others to do the same! get2gether matters because I love my job, meeting new people and having a great social life. I like helping people and I like people helping me.” (you can read more about new ambassador Philip here!)
Ambassador Natalie says they’re walking AGAIN because they had so much fun the first time! Natalie walked the Glasgow kiltwalk in April of this year, raising an incredible £450!!!! They said it was such an amazing experience that they will be doing the Edinburgh Kiltwalk in September.
On June 20th we had our big hybrid launch at Thistle Foundation and welcomed both members walking the kiltwalk and members supporting. You don’t need to be walking to get involved! Members will be at Murrayfield to cheer on the walkers or you can support by coming along to our Kiltwalk craft session on the 21st August, 3-5pm at Thistle! Bring along your own t-shirt and we’ll have paints to create your own banner or slogan perfect for supporting members or get2gether.
On July 17th we met at Victoria Park to scout out the beginning of the walk. The photo below shows members at the start of the walk. We walked 2 miles to Crewe Toll in the beautiful sun, walking at different paces and encouraging each other.
