Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults – Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Course
At get2gether we ensure all our staff members are fully compliant and up-to-date with their safeguarding training. Investing in our staff means that we can ensure our members are receiving the highest levels of safety. Learning and self-improvement is a constant process, and we are committed to helping our staff with this process.
As with many organisations , all our operations were moved online as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. As a team we all needed to update our training around adult safeguarding, so it was really important for us to find a way to do this online. Moving forward, online training will be helpful in terms of accessibility.
We had chosen to work through the course as a team using video call so we could read it through together. This allowed us to support each other. Studying online also has enabled people to return to content in their own time. This really helped reinforce self-guided learning.
Courses covered:
All staff completed the Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults Level 2 course from the CPD Online College. This course was specifically chosen due to the in-depth use of the materials and information covered in the course. We found the course really easy to navigate and consistent throughout and reading through it together led to some interesting discussions.
How was the course undertaken?
The course was taken online. We had chosen to work through the course together which led to some interesting discussions and we found the course clear and easy to follow.
Studying online allowed staff to train whilst remaining within Covid-19 guidelines. The online systems were easy to navigate. The course covered real life case studies, up to date legislation, types of abuse and the different types of disclosures.
Learning Outcomes
The Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults Level 2 course covers the following units:
Unit 1 – Legislation – The first unit will look at the legislations that are in place to ensure that vulnerable adults are treated in a way that is equal, lawful and ethical.
Unit 2 – Types of abuse – This unit will look at the different forms of abuse that an adult may be exposed to due to a vulnerability and why some adults may be more vulnerable than others.
Unit 3 – Mental Capacity – This unit will look at how some vulnerable adults might find it challenging to make certain decisions safely and effectively. It will give examples of people that may lack mental capacity and how to assess this.
Unit 4 – Disclosures and how to respond to them – In this unit we will explore what employees are required to do when abuse is alleged or suspected. We will also look at the different types of disclosure and how to respond appropriately to these.
Unit 5 – Safer recruitment – In the final unit it will look at how to respond to allegations against staff in a work setting and what policies and procedures should be in place to protect staff and vulnerable adults.
The contents of the course included the types of abuse, why some adults are more vulnerable to abuse than others, how you would respond to disclosures, mental capacity and how to ensure policies and procedures are in place to protect staff and vulnerable adults.
Adult safeguarding is vital for training anyone working with vulnerable adults. This course provided us with all the relevant information about safeguarding and how it relates to our roles and responsibilities.

“I found it was really good. The information was accessible and I liked how it was broken up into topics. I knew about safeguarding before, but it is really good to know about it in detail. It was a useful thing for us to learn about.” Katrina Lynch, get2gether Ambassador
